The entire Katamari series are proof positive that wierd games can make a splash here in the US. Beautiful Katamari is the 3rd installment and definitely the best looking of the bunch due in part to the improved graphics of the Xbox 360. The same Katamari formula is still intact: start off with a small Katamari (knob covered ball) and roll up as much junk as possible to increase the size. There are a number of different objectives within this framework that usually involve collecting specific types of objects to increase your points total at the end of the round. I must say of the 3 Katamari games Beautiful Katamari is the shortest in length by far. My brother was able to beat the game in 2 sessions over the course of 1 day. The controls on the Playstation 2 incarnations still hold a slight edge, but the Xbox controller is definitely useable. All in all this is still a great buy at $20 new. If you are looking for a Katamari fix on the Xbox look no further!
Beautiful Katamari is more of the same clump-rolling, object-grabbing action that has made the series popular. The art style is one that you'll either like or loathe, it's really just a matter of personal preference. Personally, for the wacky type of game that this is, I feel it suits it perfectly.
It doesn't take long to get through the 13 requests, and you can probably do it without many failed attempts. But it will take you longer to go back and try to find all the presents and all the cousins (playable characters) across the levels. Plus there are downloadable levels that you can purchase from Xbox LIVE Marketplace as well.
The online component isn't much fun. Most people are only selecting the one-minute mission so that they can power through the 50 matches needed for the Achievement. The cookie rewards are a little unpredictable as well, which sort of breaks any particular strategy. I've often been on the losing end of the match but walked away with far more cookies than the victor.
Pitkästä aikaa jotain todella hapokasta ja hiukkasen haastavaakin. Harmi että siitä puuttui esimerkiksi jonkin sortin rälläysmoodi ja että se oli niin luvattoman lyhyt.
Well, let me start by saying if you've played any Katamari game and enjoyed it, buy this title. If you played one and hated it, do not buy this title. Reason? It's the same thing. You roll, you pick up, there's zaniness. Nothing has changed besides the number of playable characters and the inclusion of online support.
That being said, the game is amazing. Truly a feast for the eyes, and the second to last stage is beyond comprehension. The graphics are still the same, with a cartoon blockiness and pop-art centric cut scenes, but you really can't hate that. Online play will reveal some of the most chill people you've ever played a game with on Xbox LIVE. A far cry from the half-sane gravity hammer wielding shut ins and chainsaw glitching elementary schoolers of H3 and Gears, the Katamari crowd is content with a win, a loss, a tie... they really don't care. They come to roll, and the few I spoke with are still amazed by game mechanics they've been playing with for weeks. Plus, it's super cheap these days. For these reasons I'm going to say it's one of the top games to get for the 360.
I downloaded the demo having never played Katamari before, my girlfriend Elaine loved it so I bought her the full game!!! Its fantastic, insane and yet totally enjoyable!!
The only thing Beautiful Katamari has going for it is its graphics...the original is much better. The multiplayer is dull, the time limits on the levels are too short, and online play isn't as exciting as I thought it would be.
I Love Katamari... again. I only wish Beautiful Katamari didn't feel like just a slightly cleaned up clone of its PS2 predecessor. A few new tunes and the King of All Cosmos certainly make it worth while.
