The best RPG I've played in a very long time. It easily beats high-profile games like Oblivion in almost all respects. The Witcher has depth, maturity, realism and coherence, qualities that are hard to find in games of any genre. Its world may not be as huge as Oblivion's, its mechanics not as intricate as Neverwinter Nights', but in the end The Witcher is a more satisfying experience than those two games combined. The world and story will draw you in and won't let you go until it's all over, many hours later.
This isn't to say that The Witcher doesn't have its flaws. For starters, it has your usual array of "bring me x of item y and I'll pay you z"-quests, which got old a decade ago. The whole "collectible sex cards" thing might be fun, but it detracts from the realism of the world and feels slightly "wrong". But these really are minor issues that are easily forgiven when compared to the sheer awesomeness of the rest of The Witcher.
So stop reading reviews, just go buy the Enhanced Edition (which comes in an extremely nice package, by the way). I would recommend you play the game in original Polish and English subtitles, though. The localized voices aren't all that great, but the original ones are excellent for the most part.
A dark gritty fantasy world that delves more into choices between an evil and a greater evil. The game presents a harsh world that is awashed in difficult, ambiguous moral and philosophical decisions rather than a clear-cut, typical good vs evil theme. A solid RPG made more attractive by the obvious love and passion its developers have for it.
Great RP elements, decent gameplay, and mature themes, and I don't just mean the sex. It's not going to break the world open in the sense of Planescape Torment, but if you like fantasy, and you like RPG's, you really can't go wrong here.
A detailed and atmospheric game world that sucks you in and spits you out telling you there's no good and evil, only decisions. Unfortunately plagued by the aged Aurora engine (never any good to begin with), some minor gameplay issues and a pretty ambiguous ending. Compared to Mass Effect's 4.5 I'd give this game a quarter less, however since I can't and since the game's intro sequence is in itself worth more than the majority of today's games (not their intro sequences, but games as a whole :P)...
The good: immersive game world with a well executed story-line, interesting protagonist, nicely paced fights, impressive production value (considering it's a developer's first game)
The bad: a bit too much back-tracking at some points of the game, out-dated engine
Uno dei più belli giochi di ruolo single player per pc che abbia giocato in questi ultimi anni.
Ottima storia e narrazione; personaggi molto carismatici; gameplay decisamente su ottmi livelli.
Grafica migliorata, e molti bug risolti in questa versione enhanced.
One of the greatest RPG I've ever played. A must-buy for every RPG lover.
ehh...its just another rpg with sexual themes and grinding, i wasnt impressed
