Now to clarify things, I am indeed a WoW player. However, I'm an MMORPG fanatic. I'm not stuck-on WoW like most of the players are. All in all, I felt this was a good MMO. It had solid classes, from what I played it was pretty well-balanced (I mainly played a Zealot, but played almost every class in the game at least to level 10). However, I'm in college and work at GameStop so I'm stuck with a laptop (the gaming machine fund has begun already, don't worry). That being said, my laptop didn't get along with the requirements of this game too well. Now I'm not holding my PC limitations against it at all, I'm simply pointing out the poor scalability of this game engine, which is something to surely take into consideration when picking out PC titles. The questing in the game felt very generic, as did the Player v. Player (PvP) scenarios. The UI was very clunky (I haven't played recently, so who knows what mods there are for that now), and the tutorials to get to know the game were very weak. Honestly, if you know people that play this game, then go for it. MMO's are fun to play with friends, regardless of what they are. Other than that, if you're looking for a good MMO to waste some time with, I would not recommend this one.
Good solid MMORPG, but for some reason it felt a little disconnected. Server sizes are in real flux too which is aggravating. Not sorry I played it for a couple of months but it is not going to replace my WarCraft or EVE subsciptions.
This game is so extra awesome. Love.
--I'm well aware I could have written a real review, but really everyone else has said it already.
Good MMO, lots of depth, lots of fun classes. Just wish it ran well on my computer and that this would have existed in the pre WoW world.
Warhammer is the follow Mythic game after DAOC has run it's course. The entire concept around WAR! is realm vs. realm combat. Fun and all, but it appaers to become once again a zerg fest just like DAOC. The game is very well designed, and encourages lost of RvR combat, but it just wasn't for me. After a month I decided to cancel my subscription, as I found, like all Mythic games, the grind is pretty boring.
I will give props to the WAR! designers on coming up with a way to show where your quest mobs are on the map. Gone are the days of missing the camp and running 20 minutes past. Beyond that, it seems to be DAOC just in different lands. And I've had enough of that.
Solid PvP and RvR action and not really too demanding on your social life like many other farming-oriented MMOs.
The concept of Open Quests is nice but game mechanics (in particular the Tiered approach to world exploration) let the lower level zones a bit underpopulated.
On many servers the Open World PvP is deserted by ex-battleground farmers of WOW fame. Sad for them, because the real nice gear and powerful stuff can be found only conquering Keeps and battling for territorial control.
Unlike many other MMOs, this one require people to think, plan and create their own game play. If you are a player bent to explore and invent, this is the game for you.
As said before, the only real gripe is the Tiered approach to zoning: while you are allowed to join higher level zones for PVP, receiving a level buff, but retaining your sub-par skill set, the inverse is not possible, so higher level players won't be scaled down to a lower level. I wonder how many games need to release borked social components like this one before accepting that the ability (with some caveats) to play with anyone is a must for many MMO players.
I played DAoC for 4 years and I like this game as much. It is holding my interest but I am always going to be a die hard daoc fan and will prolly go back to it. The rvr is DAoC is simlar to this but for some reason no one seems to be using it would love to see more world rvr and the ppl need to get more friendly. Over all it is a great game!!
It's no Dark Age of Camelot, and is plagued by bugs but the PVP is amazing, great WoW substitute for me. I am really glad all the kiddies are still hooked on WoW.
Worthy MMORPG.
Heavy in content.
Probably still under-rated world wide.
Good thing the kids are still in wow, WAR is pure awesome.
