Quote-leftThe multi-genre style makes it a jack-of-all-trades but master of none. Only the creators are commendable. Gets boring fast. Really fast.Quote-right

Quote-leftIt has some fun parts, but overall it's missing something. All the various points in the evolution are completely separate making it feel disjointed.Quote-right

Quote-leftI looked forward to this game for quite some time. After playing through (well, almost.. I quit during the space age) one campaign I can genuinely say that this game is boring.

The concept is spectacular --- design everything, actions impact the future, and evolve etc. The actual game play is lacking. Instead of the the cell stage I could play a free online flash game. Instead of the mmorg stage I could play WoW. Instead of the civ stage I could play Total War, Age of Empires or Civilization. Instead of the space stage I could play Master of Orion. Why play a half baked amalgamation of these obviously superior games when you can just play the core genre classics?

Basically, Spore was boring for me. I found myself clicking through the endless creation views as quickly as possible. I didn't care about the color of my guy's tail... I just wanted to move on to the next stage.

Anyway, this game was a let down for me. I expect much more from the other greatly anticipated, remaining releases for 08, particularly Fallout 3. This game is worth trying once but it didn't live up to the hype.Quote-right

Quote-leftThis game has to be the biggest breakthrough for the imagination ever achieved! This is like an orgasm for the creative minds of the doodler/artist. The fact that you can you can create the creature that you've drawn countless times and then watch it walk around on the screen interacting with its environment is just amazing. Not only, that, but the game puts you in the shoes on God allowing you to guide your creature through evolution, and determine its future.
True, the game does leave more to be desired in the game play, with many key factors left out that allow you to do all the things the game lets you, but the creators are what makes the game unique from Ages of Empires, the Sims, and the like. I actually think it was smart of Electronic Arts to simplify the game, because otherwise if they did include all the details, the game would get tedious and bore more people than it would if it were simplified.Quote-right

Quote-leftWow... so many negative reviews for this game. I didn't have any problems with it. Sure after a week or so the game gets repetitive, if you don't have a life or a job an ddo nothing but play Spore for 12 hours a day. There is too much to do to get bored with it.

And, even if you do get bored with evolving you little guys from cell to space faring galatic empire, you can spend forever in the creators. Buildings, vehicles, and of course, creatures.

I have spent most of my time in the creators, there is just too much stuff to make to be bored. And that is without the expansion pack! In a few days I will get the Cute and Creepy pack and then I will hardly play the full game, just every once and a while with a few of the new creatures I create.

Now for the bad, some of the animations are twitchy, the creator can be a little persnickity, especially if you use a laptop like me. Boringand repetitive, sure. Maybe, only if you forget that the creator thing is there.

If creation isn't your thing, then this game isn't going to be. If it is, this is probably the best game ever.Quote-right

Quote-leftLargely disappointing! I found the game to be very glitchy and just not very fun to play. A real let down!Quote-right

Quote-leftBiggest fail of the whole year. It lacks any real co herancy in the age advancment and the amount of content removed to make this game more user friendly was utterly ridiculus. i was very disappointedQuote-right

Quote-leftSpore has amazing potential, but it wastes it in a lot of ways. Many of the stages are too short and underdeveloped, and it's painfully obvious where content was chopped out in hopes of selling future 'expansion' packs (city stage, I'm looking at you). Still, the fundamental idea of the game is sound, and I fully expect Spore to open up a new genre of simulation games in the same way that the Sims did lo these many years ago. Additionally, the way player-created content is shared across games via the Sporepedia is absolutely inspired, and certainly should become an industry standard for how to deal with player-genderated content, even if it does create the occasional invasion of genital-based monsters into the wider universe (which, to be honest, can be entertaining at times to one's inner twelve year old).

Ultimately, Spore is a game with a strong concept but weak execution. We'll just have to wait and see if future expansion packs can restore to us the game that Will Wright promised us in the first place.Quote-right

Quote-leftHonestly, I stopped playing Spore because I picked up Sacred 2. But my interest was waning. The early stages of the game are too short to explore, and then the space stage of the game goes on forever. It felt to me that the early stages were... unfinished. Also, since you can change what your creature looks like and does completely, there is no feeling of continuity to the game, i.e., what you do in one stage really doesn't affect the rest of the game. There is no *evolution*. Other than what it eats (carnivorous, herbivorous, etc.), your creature can be an acid-spitting four-legged reptile one moment, and a fuzzy bipedal flying mammal the next.

I guess that's what bothers me about the game. It's a set of five minigames that are only barely tied together. Any of the games could have been developed into a full-fledged, meaningful experiences, but, since they are short, cut, and trite, the overall game feels contrived and disjointed. The creature creator is the best part of Spore -- and I think pointing out that the artist's tool is the best part of the game says a lot about how good the actual game is.Quote-right
