I looked forward to this game for quite some time. After playing through (well, almost.. I quit during the space age) one campaign I can genuinely say that this game is boring.
The concept is spectacular --- design everything, actions impact the future, and evolve etc. The actual game play is lacking. Instead of the the cell stage I could play a free online flash game. Instead of the mmorg stage I could play WoW. Instead of the civ stage I could play Total War, Age of Empires or Civilization. Instead of the space stage I could play Master of Orion. Why play a half baked amalgamation of these obviously superior games when you can just play the core genre classics?
Basically, Spore was boring for me. I found myself clicking through the endless creation views as quickly as possible. I didn't care about the color of my guy's tail... I just wanted to move on to the next stage.
Anyway, this game was a let down for me. I expect much more from the other greatly anticipated, remaining releases for 08, particularly Fallout 3. This game is worth trying once but it didn't live up to the hype.
Its been a while but in retrospect this game was really awful. They had a good premise but the implementation was just never there.
This is a really cool game. It was the first FPS I've played with a deep story line and side-plots. It actually reminded me quite a bit of Fallout and I expect the new Fallout to somewhat similar as well. I'd highly recommend it, although the ending that I got was pretty weak imo.
Too complicated for me. I didn't even have the wear with all to learn all the basics. I'm sure its a good game for the genre but definitely not for me.
I believe this was my first strategy game and it certainly was a good one. I remember part II was distinctly better (as expected) but this definitely got me hooked on this genre for a long time.
This game is as short as advertised, but what it lacks in length is abundantly compensated by its superb quality. Frankly, the game messes with your mind. Just looking into the portals alone was enough to really confuse me a few times. To beat the game you really do have to take some time to think about the different challenges and how momentum and strategy could help you in different ways.
The game is really brilliant, and I look forward to any other versions they choose to make. One of the best games I have ever played.
