Perhaps the greatest 3rd person shooter game of the PSX era of Sony consoles. It had action, zombies, something resembling a plot and more than enough cheesy one liners that it was fun for consecutive replays.
It was fun, still wonder where the formula behind this title went as it apparently was so wrong that they decided to destroy what was left of it with WarCraft 3
It was my first console fighter I owned, I still have pleasant memories of it versus most of the more modern games, but then again that was a long time ago and memories of the past tend to get that nostalgic fix that keeps you from truly objectively recalling all their horrendous flaws.
Loved it, played it, now I play the Wii version which is just a hell of a lot more fun.
Pending Resident Evil 5, this is perhaps the greatest game in the series. I've yet to play Resident Evil 5 but I'm certain without a doubt there aren't too many games within the RE series that beat this game on any level. It has enough cheesy cornball jokes, it maintains a good aiming system, rather using wiimote or gamecube controller (haven't tried the PS2 version of this) and it maintains a good story while letting you get your rocks off to killing parasites and people infected with parasites (interestingly somehow this doesn't seem wrong...). Anyway it was fun and definitely worth playing through repeatedly.
This was what Squaresoft needed to get people to care about the Final Fantasy series after that mistake (FF8). Well thankfully it was so much fun.
Pros:
Robin Williams (not the real one, but the leader of the school you use as a base happens to look like Mr. Williams)
Squall's sporadic epilepsy which allows you to take control of Laguna.
Cons:
Zell x Seifer - seriously what's up with their interactions... there's more latent homosexual inuendo there than usually allow in overbudget action movies.
gunblades - definite pos when it comes to comparing using that
Squall - thank the heavens for sporadic epilepsy.
Issues: It was a bad idea. Nothing of it was truly interesting and generally toward making something of it dynamic, having your character gain abilities via cosplay has been used enough in anime that we do not need that talent as the focal point of success/failure within an RPG (in contrast an action or action RPG title would have probably made a far better use of it).
Pros: FFX with DoA physics ... need it really have a plot?
